Anupama Raag’s song Maati creating ripples among Lucknowites.
Anupama Raag is an Indian playback singer, music director and lyricist. She rose to fame with her playback debut track “ Shalu ke thumke filmed on Mallika Sherawat. Thereafter she sang many hit numbers in numerous movies.

Anupama is now known more for composing and writing beautiful compositions like “Saware” and “Banjare “sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and “Laal Dupatta “ sung by Mika Singh and her composition “Azad kar” sung by Swanand Kirkire in Sudhir Mishra’s movie “Daas Dev”
Anupama always had a flair for music, and this was a guiding force which inspired her to learn music formally from Ustad Gulshan Bharti of Lucknow gharana under guru shishya parampara. She also holds a degree of visharad from the Bhatkhande university Lucknow and Loreto Convent School is proud to have her as an alumni.
Anupama was born and raised in the city of Nawabs Lucknow. She was born in bureaucratic and political family. Her father belonged to the Indian Police Services (IPS) who later retired as director general of police and mother was a celebrated politician a cabinet minister and a Member of Parliament.
Her maternal grandfather was also a Member of Parliament and paternal grandfather was a union cabinet minister.
Anupama was the youngest in her family amongst three sisters. She and her eldest sister followed their father’s footsteps and appeared for the civil services. Both got selected in the provincial civil services. Her eldest sister has currently taken voluntary retirement from the post of joint commissioner GST and her older sister is serving as chief medical officer in the government of up and specializes in gynecology.
Anupama who going to be promoted as the deputy commissioner GST has currently taken a break from her service to pursue her career in music. According to her making a career in music has been far more challenging than civil services or politics as nobody from her family has been related even remotely with the field of music.
Anupama always had a flair for music, and this was a guiding force which inspired her to learn music formally from Ustad Gulshan Bharti of Lucknow gharana under Guru Shishya Parampara. She also holds a degree of Visharad from the Bhatkhande University Lucknow.
After rendering her voice for noted songs Anupama changed her role in the field of music. She always had a flair for writing lyrics and composing songs. In fact her career started with the launch of her debut music album “Ruh” which was released by noted filmmaker Muzaffar Ali. Just after cutting this album she was launched by leading lyricist of those times Faiz Anwar in his own produced album called “Arsh”.
Anupama’s first work as a composer came out in form of the song Laal Dupatta, a single sung by Mika Singh featuring the beautiful Urvashi Rautela. The song topped the charts as soon it was released and was viewed by millions within few days.
After this track Anupama shared a beautiful musical partnership with the ace singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in two of her consecutive singles “ Saware” and “Banjare”. Saware featured Kunal Khemu and Femina miss India Vartika Singh whereas Banjare featured Beautiful Neetu Chandra. Both of the songs were highly appreciated world over.
Anupama also shouldered the responsibility of writing composing singing and acting in her solo single “ Naina re” where she played a protagonist portraying feelings of a lovelorn princess.
Apart from these mega singles she has also composed jingles and lot of theme songs as Indian Gramin Cricket league theme song, Lucknow Development Authority Theme song, Badminton association of India theme song, UP theme song “ I love my Up. “
Anupama has had more than a dozen songs to her credit in the past two years on YouTube and tv channels
Mother of a eleven-year-old and wife of noted Samajwadi Party leader Anurag Singh Bhadoria ,she has also be heard in Anubhav Sinha’s film Gulab Gang. But not wanting to stick to being just an itemsong singer, Anupama likes to experiment with other genres too and has sung ghazals, love songs and soft numbers in her private album and loves to do playback singing as well
Before adopting singing as the sole profession, Anupama served as a bureaucrat in Uttar Pradesh. She is a former assistant commissioner of Commercial Tax Department and has also served as an Officer On Special Duty in the Lucknow Development Authority
She has learned classical musical from Ustad Gulshan Bharti of Lucknow gharana and Yogendra Bhat of Gwalior gharana under the traditional guru-shishya parampara
Early in her singing career, Anupama used to be a regular singing talent at both Doordarshan and Aakashwani. Additionally, she sang for five consecutive years at the Lucknow Mahotsav
Anupama Raag has produced music for films and albums. She has worked for Salman Khan productions and Yash Raj Films, and has also composed music for Lucknow Development Authority and the Uttar Pradesh Pride Song for Uttar Pradesh Government. She has also composed jingles for TV Commercials for various brands.
Even after becoming a singer, Anupama did not forget her previous professions. To acknowledge the Uttar Pradesh Government, she composed/wrote 2 songs for it namely Lucknow Development Authority Theme and U.P. Pride Song
For her contribution towards the field of music, the UP government awarded her the Yash Bharati Award in 2016
Juggling demanding careers as a bureaucrat and a singer, Anupama says, “Singing is something I can never give up. And it’s my husband Anurag’s unflinching support that allows me to do so. That’s why in between my film assignments and my job I have managed to write, compose and sing a few songs, the videos of which are being shot these days. Soon, I will be releasing these songs on the web directly. Hopefully, people will like them,” says she, crossing her fingers.
